Project: Bookville

Bookville, the coined name for the sex offender colony that was located under the Julia Tuttle Causeway in Miami, Florida. Named after its creator Ron Book, Bookville is the home to a group of former offenders who are homeless.

As for the offenders, they are not there by choice nor lack of funds to find homes, but rather, due to oppressive residency laws that target only former sex offenders.

For “Rocky,” this is just another day in Bookville.

Some inhabitants of Bookville live directly under the bridge. Due to high tides, the senior members are given the top shelf. While the younger members, who are more likely to fend for themselves, are given the bottom. Nonetheless, they have created a home, humble and in a primitive manner, they sleep together but away from the local population.
